Full Circle - Valuing Communities: Valuing Culture (7th December 2005)Cultural planning and development agency Eventus have just successfully completed Full Circle, a major culture and regeneration programme in Sheffield.
Based in the a former mining village of Beighton, the programme was delivered by two full time workers over two and a half years. It included public artworks, a series of environmental activities, and a community heritage project. Funding came from Objective 1, with additional grants from the Arts Council England and Heritage Lottery Fund.
In 2004 the DCMS’s consultation document ‘Culture at the Heart of Regeneration’ identified a need for more evidence based examples of culture’s impact on regeneration. Unusually for a creative project, the effectiveness of Full Circle has therefore been measured against the benchmarks of the Active Partners Framework, as advocated by Yorkshire Forward and developed by COGS. The model has been used to evaluate the levels of capacity building and participation within the community. The full report is now available to download from www.eventus.org.uk
The report evidences that a strategic approach to community based cultural resources can both engage people in activities and have a long term impact on communities. < Back to news
