Consultation on Improving the Effectiveness of Infrastructure delayed

The office for Civil Society has delayed a consultation on Improving the Effectiveness of VCS Infrastructure. The consultation has been put back to start mid September. Yorkshire & the Humber Forum will be seeking views from sector organisations before responding in detail to this important consultation.

As the outcomes of the Comprehensive Spending Review will be announced on 20 October this is one of those occasions when earlier responses are more likely to be influential. Watch this space for updated information.

Eric Pickles announced as joint chair of ministerial big society group

Third Sector Online, 22 July 2010

Communities secretary Eric Pickles will co-chair the coalition government’s big society ministerial group, which has been set up to coordinate government departments' efforts to help communities do more for themselves.

The Cabinet Office has announced that Pickles will jointly chair the group – which met for the first time this week – with Cabinet Office minister Francis Maude, who was initially announced as the sole chair. A Cabinet Office statement said the meeting "agreed that the remit of the group should be expanded to cover localism as well as big society, and that it would be co-chaired in future by Eric Pickles".

Among the issues covered in the first meeting of the group – which was attended by 15 ministers – was the importance and effectiveness of the Compact, the statement said. Maude said: "Big society is not about big government but about communities doing more for themselves. We want to ensure that every part of government is working together to ensure individuals and communities have the support and opportunities to change the things they care about."

The Government has promised to reduce the bureacratic burden on small civil society organisations, and has launched a consultation to find out how they can do this. Click on the link below to tell them which aspects of petty bureacracy should be removed in order to make it easier to run your own organisation. Do this now, because they have set a deadline of September to look at the initial response to this issue.Your Freedom & third sector regulations
